H&H Classic Auctions

H. & H. CLASSIC AUCTIONS LTD was established by Simon Hope and Mark Hamilton in late 1993 and held their first sale in November of that year. They felt that as classic car enthusiasts themselves, collectors and dealers alike were not being given the service they deserved at a price they could afford to pay by other auction houses and especially by those in London.

In their first 10 years they have sold over 3,500 cars for in excess of £30 million and are Europe's largest specialist auction house in veteran, vintage and collector's cars, motorcycles and related automobilia.

Simon Hope, the Managing Director, has been auctioning in specialist commodities for the best part of twenty years. He is an avid classic car enthusiast who bought his first classic car, a 1947 Sunbeam Talbot Ten saloon, whilst at University in the early 1970's. He has owned various vintage and classic cars over the years including Jaguars, Astons and Riley's etc and presently has a 1933 A.C. 16/66 Sports four seater open tourer, an Aston Martin DB4, a Lotus Elan S4 Drophead, a Mini Cooper 'S', an Austin Healey 3000 Mk3 BJ8 and various others plus he is an avid collector of Automobilia. Simon also races with the Historic Grand Prix Cars Association and the VSCC in the 1951 Peirce MGF2 single seater.

Mark Hamilton, the Sales Director, had a very early introduction to the classic car scene as his father was a great collector and Mark was brought up with a host of vintage and classic cars. Presently in his early forties, he has always been involved in the industry and prior to the start of H. & H. Classic Auctions Ltd. he was part of the very successful Hampsons Classic Car Dealership and auction house. He presently has several cars including an 'E' type V12 roadster, a Porsche 928 and a supercharged Porsche 911.

Their car sales are restricted to just 80 entries and this includes a complete cross-section of cars from a few hundred pounds to several hundreds of thousands of pounds. They have sold many important cars, including the Rob Walker Lotus 49B that won the 1968 British Grand Prix, and have achieved several records and they have sold in excess of 80% of the entry since 1997 which is by far the best of any auctioneers in the Country.

Right in the heart of England, easy to get to from anywhere, the beautiful Spa town of Buxton in Derbyshire is the main setting for their sales and all the facilities you could ever wish for are provided. The sale actually takes place in the Octagon Theatre, which is part of the Pavilion Gardens complex, and this is a Grade II listed building of immense charm and character. There are three restaurants and several bars and there is lots to do for everyone including some wonderful shops and many visitors make it a family occasion and stay overnight in one of the many superb hotels in the area.

As well as the H&H auctions providing an ideal source of excellent quality classics for HCHG Members, H&H provide an insurance valuation service to HCHG Members which our insurers accept as the Agreed Value under the HCHG policy.
